The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), established on July 1, 1957, under Section 54 of the Electricity (Supply) Act of 1948, serves as a vertically integrated utility overseeing power generation, transmission, and distribution within Tamil Nadu. Following the stipulations of Section 131 of the Electricity Act, 2003, TNEB underwent significant restructuring on November 1, 2010, resulting in the formation of TNEB Limited, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO). In a recent development, TANGEDCO has rebranded itself as Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL), effective June 27, 2024.
